Who Does the U.S. Bank Skyway Open Benefit?
The charitable goal of the U.S. Bank Skyway Open is to raise money to benefit REBOUND, part of a program run by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities. The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities mission is: to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
The Club serves youth ages 6-18 years old. Since the Club is an integral part of the neighborhoods it serves, relationships with businesses, schools and families are built to better serve youth. Club sites are placed in targeted neighborhoods where the need is greatest. The organization's members often face significant challenges, some of which include poverty, crime and violence, single parent families, poor school performance, substance abuse and gangs.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities provides a wide range of programming in five core program areas – Character & Leadership Development; Education & Career Development; Health & Life Skills; the Arts; and Sports, Fitness & Recreation.
Activities are designed to provide guidance and foster a positive self-identity for boys and girls. Club programs instill a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence which promotes and enhances healthy development in boys and girls. This will help to ensure that each Club member is supported in reaching his or her full potential in all areas of development.
The Club provides children and teens with experiences that not only impact their present, but will also have life-long positive effects. As an organization, the goal is to increase self-esteem, define healthy self-concepts and help youth prepare and set goals for the future.
The Club serves over 16,000 youth each year, with a daily attendance of over 1,000 youth.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities provides programs year round. Throughout the year, additional environmental education and outdoor recreation opportunities are provided for members at the organization's Voyageur Environmental Center in Mound.
